Ripening Gas and Pathogen Oxidation for Cold Room Storage

Reduce spoilage and prolong shelf life of fresh cuts through photocatalytic oxidation – a chemical-free method of scrubbing ethylene and killing bacteria and mold.

Fresh fruits and vegetables emit a ripening agent, ethylene. Ethylene production will vary from food to food. Also, the fresh cut’s spoilage threshold varies as a function of ethylene concentration.

The Titan Aire™ Air Purifier has the ability to oxidize ethylene, as well as airborne spores and bacteria, thus prolonging shelf life for anywhere from tens to millions of pounds of fresh cuts in a single cold room storage facility. The photocatalytic media remains in place much longer than typical ethylene scrubber media. The high dose UV lamps inactivate bacteria and spores

Ethylene is oxidized to carbon dioxide and moisture according to the following environmentally-friendly reaction in the Titan Aire™:

C2H4 + O2 + H2O → 2CO2 + H2O
(ethylene)

Catalyx can add an ethylene monitor with trending capability to the Titan Aire™ air purification system.
